What is a CCW License?
A permit to carry a concealed handgun in public, issued by the San Diego Sheriff’s Department (SDSD) under California law. Valid statewide; reciprocity varies.
Who Can Apply?
- San Diego County residents, 21+ years old.
- U.S. citizen or legal resident.
- Pass background check (no felonies, certain misdemeanors, or mental health issues).
- Complete approved firearms training.
How to Apply
- Start Online: Apply at ccw-sdsd.cssa.cloud.
- Submit Documents: CA ID, Proof of residency, Fingerprints, Photos, Good cause statement, Training certificate.
- Pay Fees: Non-refundable.
- Interview: 30-60 min at SDSD HQ.
- Background Check: DOJ/FBI review (3-6 months).
- Pick Up Permit: If approved, valid for 2 years.
Fees
- Initial: $172 (includes background; fingerprints extra).
- Renewal: $70.
- Duplicate/Reissue: $20.
- Training: $200-500 (varies).
- Live Scan: $20-50.
Restricted Areas (Where You CANNOT Carry)
